Background of the Study
Access to clean water is a fundamental factor in public health, particularly in rural areas where waterborne diseases are prevalent. Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, has witnessed various local government initiatives aimed at improving access to safe drinking water, especially in underserved communities. Over the years, local government bodies have implemented water supply programs, including boreholes, water treatment facilities, and rainwater harvesting systems, with the aim of curbing waterborne diseases like cholera and dysentery.
Despite these efforts, water supply challenges continue to hinder public health improvement, with many communities still lacking reliable access to clean water. The role of local government in addressing these issues is critical, and evaluating the effectiveness of these programs in improving public health is necessary to ensure the sustainability of water supply interventions.
This study aims to assess the effectiveness of water supply programs implemented by Lokoja Local Government and their impact on public health in the region.
